Red Flag - Russian Radio
I first heard this song on the radio back in 1988 on the now defunct Zoo 101.6 FM - A radio station in Batam Indonesia, that gain tremendous popularity in Singapore before its demise in the 1990s by the appearance of numerous new radio stations like the Perfect 10. Many of them adopted similar format of Zoo 101.6 FM. Unfortunately, Zoo is not forward looking enough to adapt and change to something more exciting.
This song was never played on any of the Singapore radio stations. At that time, Singapore radio stations tend to play more mainstream music and they rarely venture into anything more experimental. Even till this day, I still find that to be the case for most local radio stations. On the contrary, Malaysian radio stations are more ready to play different versions in particular rare remixed versions that local radio stations seem to have completely deleted from their archives. Those played on Dr Mix shows do not count, and they are not that great either.
Red flag released this song on their album Naive Art and the album has a remixed edition called Naive Dance. It's quite a popular trend back in the 80s and early 90s for bands to release a remix edition of their normal albums. Good remix albums. Unlike what Black Eyed Peas did with their so-called remix album, which totally cannot make it. Anyway, Russian Radio is a very popular track among fans of electronic pop music.
